Questions, Answered
Our process is simple, but there are always questions that need answers to.
If, though, the answers aren’t here, feel free to reach out and we’ll get you that answer.
How does registration work?
Registration happens directly on SurgiFlow.io.
Step 1: Create an account on the platform.
Step 2: Upload your required documents for identity and credential verification.
Step 3: Our team will review and vet your profile. Once approved, you’ll receive confirmation and can start accepting bookings.
This streamlined process ensures you’re fully verified and ready to assist in private hospitals across South Africa.
What does the vetting process entail?
The SurgiFlow vetting process aligns with the clinical governance standards of South Africa’s major private hospital groups. This ensures safety, professionalism, and medico-legal compliance.
To be vetted, you’ll need to upload:
✅ Certified ID
✅ HPCSA registration
✅ Medical degree or qualification
✅ Two references
✅ Summary of surgical experience & preferences
Once verified, you’ll be cleared to assist in theatres across affiliated hospitals.
Why do I need to upload my documents?
Uploading your documents is essential for verification and medico-legal compliance.
Private hospitals require proof of your identity, qualifications, and HPCSA registration before allowing you to assist in theatre. By uploading your documents once on SurgiFlow, we can vet and approve you across multiple hospital groups — saving time and streamlining access to cases.
Do I need Indemnity Insurance?
Yes, it is a reasonable expectation that any medical practitioner in South Africa has indemnity insurance for both the private and state sectors. While the state might provide coverage for certain aspects, it does not cover personal complaints or HPCSA complaints, making indemnity insurance essential.
Although indemnity insurance is not required from the onset, it is mandatory for any GP wanting to do locum calls in hospital ECs or practice independently.
To support you in this journey, TSA has partnered with industry-leading experts. We will cover you with our indemnity insurance for the first three months after booking your initial case through TSA. Thereafter, we will connect you with experts to ensure you remain covered.
Why does TSA take 15%, where does this go?
The 15% platform fee is reinvested directly into building the ecosystem that supports you.
This includes:
✅ Securing new surgeons and expanding hospital partnerships
✅ Running and improving the SurgiFlow platform
✅ Managing case logistics, scheduling, and onboarding
✅ Tracking payments and ensuring accountability
✅ Offering initial indemnity cover and support
Our full-time team ensures you have access to real, paid opportunities — and that you don’t fall through the cracks, like so many doctors do when assisting informally. This isn’t just a fee — it’s fuel for your growth.
How will I be notified of cases?
All case requests are now managed directly through SurgiFlow.io.
You’ll receive booking alerts on your SurgiFlow dashboard and via email. From there, you can accept or decline based on your availability.
We are gradually phasing out WhatsApp broadcasts — though some may still be used during this transition period. In the future, all communication, scheduling, and confirmations will be managed through the platform.
Will I get cases straight away?
Ideally, yes — but it depends on a few factors.
While we aim to offer regular opportunities to all assistants on SurgiFlow, supply currently exceeds demand. Cases are matched based on availability, proximity, previous experience, and how complete your profile is.
That said, the platform is growing fast. We’re actively working to ensure that every assistant gets at least one opportunity per month, and that surgeons consistently return to SurgiFlow for their booking needs.
How often are cases available?
Cases are posted on SurgiFlow.io almost daily.
Once a surgeon selects their assistant, the case is removed from public view. In many instances, if a surgeon builds rapport with an assistant, they’ll request them again — meaning those cases won’t be visible to others.
To improve your chances, respond quickly, keep your profile updated, and aim for excellent feedback — repeat bookings often follow!
Where is Surgiflow based?
SurgiFlow is proudly South African.
Founded in Cape Town with team members in Johannesburg, we operate as a semi-remote startup. What began as a side-hustle has grown into a full-scale operation — with all revenue reinvested into improving the platform, expanding opportunities, and supporting healthcare professionals across the country.
When can I expect payment?
The short answer: it varies.
Payment timelines differ from surgeon to surgeon. Some pay monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly. Others wait until payment is received from medical aids. In the case of WCA (Workmen’s Compensation), payment can take 18–24 months.
We understand how frustrating this can be — many of us have been there ourselves. That’s why SurgiFlow is actively working on solutions to bring more transparency and tracking into the process to help you stay informed and empowered.
